High Point-Thomasville HiToms News Release

WILMINGTON, N.C. - JJ Jankowski made his third consecutive quality start for the HiToms on Tuesday night in Wilmington and finally earned a win as Thomasville pulled off a 4-2 win over the Sharks at Buck Hardee Field.

Jankowski (W, 1-0) worked seven strong innings and didn't allow a hit until there were two outs in the fourth inning, but he did end his night allowing just five hits with two runs, three walks and striking out 13.

Leading 1-0 in the third, Thomasville (6-6) extended their lead to three runs with a two-run third inning against Matt Batts (L, 0-2) as Jacob Rogers collected an RBI with a single to drove Stephen Carmon home and Tyler Hall doubled to the right center gap with two men out to plate Rogers and give Jankowski some breathing room.

Wilmington (5-9) got on the board in the sixth as Jankowski surrendered a leadoff single and a one out double ahead of Kenny Bryant who grounded to second to plate the run and cut the Thomasville lead to two-runs at 3-1.

In Jankowski's final inning, the Sharks brought the tying run to second base after a leadoff walk to Freedman and a bunt single by Stupenski put runners and second and third with one out after a sacrifice bunt. However, Wilmington was able to manage only a single run to cut the lead to 3-2 after seven as the Thomasville right hander struck out his 13th hitter of the night, a new season high.

Thomasville added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a Alex Williams RBI groundout to make it 4-2 HiToms. Johnny Hoffman worked the final two innings for his first save of the season.

The Tommies return to Finch Field tomorrow night at 7:00 when they host the Asheboro Copperheads, it will be another Mighty Dollar Wednesday with hotdogs, 12 ounce fountain drinks and select 12 ounce beer on sale for just one dollar.
