Lexington County Blowfish News Release

The Columbia Blowfish became the first Coastal Plain League team to reach double digit losses in the 2011 season as they fell to the Fayetteville SwampDogs, 7-3, at home Tuesday night. The loss is the fifth straight for Columbia, their longest losing streak of the season.

The SwampDogs got on the board in the first inning after Nick Crucet led off with a walk and later came around to score on a Danny Gesick sacrifice fly.

Josh Adams (0-2) got his second start of the season for Columbia (4-10). He pitched well, allowing four earned runs or four hits, but command was an issue as he walked four batters. Derek Brooks (3-0) pitched a gem in his second start of the season for the SwampDogs (8-5), allowing two runs while scattering six hits over six innings of work.

The Blowfish got to Brooks and took the lead in the second inning. Tyler Jackson hit his second home run in as many days to tie the game and later in the frame Daniel Jones picked up his first RBI of the season, driving in Ryan Burt on a single to right field.

The SwampDogs regained the lead in the fourth inning as three runs came across to score. Nick O'Loughlin and Dylan Brown provided the fire power with back-to-back base hits.

The SwampDogs added two more in the fifth thanks in part to an error on a pop fly to shortstop Daniel Jones, making it 12 of 14 games the Blowfish have allowed at least one unearned run.

The Blowfish bullpen, which has struggled at times, pitched four scoreless innings to keep the Blowfish in the game.

Zach Smith hit his league-leading sixth home run of the season to lead off the eighth, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Blowfish from dropping their seventh game in their last eight. They continue the home-and-home series tomorrow night in Fayetteville.
