Fayetteville Snaps Losing Streak with 7-3 Victory over Columbia

June 14, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Danny Gesick went 3-for-4, Derek Brooks pitched six solid innings, and the Fayetteville SwampDogs snapped their four game losing streak with a 7-3 win over the Columbia Blowfish on Tuesday night at Capital City Stadium.

Gesick doubled, drove in a run, and scored two runs as the SwampDogs had their biggest offensive outburst since their last trip to Columbia, a 10-4 week exactly a week ago. Nick O'Loughlin, the Cal State-Fullerton product playing in his first game for the 'Dogs, had a two-run double as part of a three-run fourth inning that gave Fayetteville (8-5) the lead for good.

The win puts the SwampDogs back into sole possession of first place, a half game up on idle Morehead City. Columbia (4-10) becomes the first team to double digit losses in the CPL this season, and have now lost nine of ten.

Brooks (3-0) made his second start and earned just the second victory for SwampDogs starters. He allowed just two runs in his six innings, walking one and striking out four. Cory Kent allowed a run in two innings of relief, and Cody Davis pitched a perfect ninth.

Columbia starter Josh Adams (0-2) pitched five innings and took the loss. He allowed six runs, but just three earned, while walking four and striking out one.

The two teams will play the back end of the home-and-home at J.P. Riddle Stadium on Wednesday night. It's Ladies' Night at "The Swamp," and the first 250 ladies will receive a rose courtesy of Owen/Bordeaux florists. Gates open at 6 p.m., with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
