Jam Outmatched by Vipers

HIDALGO, TEXAS, December 22, 2011 - The Bakersfield Jam (6-4) lost to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (7-5) by a score of 127-104 on the road tonight. The Vipers connected on 21 three-pointers on the night, setting a new NBA D-League season-high in three-point field-goals made.

The Vipers got out to a quick start, outscoring the Jam 16-4 in the paint and 12-2 on the fast break to build a 33-20 lead at the end of the first period. The second quarter included even more offense as Bakersfield allowed Rio Grande Valley to score 69 first half points and found themselves trailing by 19 at the half. The Jam made a run to get back into the game in the third, behind Mustapha Farrakhan's 14 point quarter. They outscored the Vipers 33-24 to cut the deficit to 10 points going into the final period. But the Vipers would not let up as they returned the favor, outscoring the Jam 34-21 in the fourth and extending their lead to as many as 26 points on the night.

Farrakhan led Bakersfield in scoring this evening with 23 points. One rebound shy of a double-double, David Palmer contributed 14 points and 9 boards off the bench. Osiris Eldridge added 13 points. Juan Pattillo and Jeremy Wise, in his first game back with the Jam this season, recorded 12 points each off the bench.

The Vipers were led by Stanley Asumnu (13-for-17 field goals) and Lee Humphrey (9-for-11 field goals, including 8 three pointers) with 28 points each. Julian Sensley had 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Kelvin Lewis tallied 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Bakersfield will play Rio Grande Valley again tomorrow night in a second game of the back-to-back set, tipping off at 5 p.m. PT.
