SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Bakersfield Jam (17-21) defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors (14-24) 108-104 Wednesday night at the Kaiser Permanente Arena. Terrico White led the Jam with 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting.
Bakersfield shot lights out to start the game as they shot 66.7 percent from the field in the opening quarter, compared to Santa Cruz's 30.4 percent, and took a 39-21 lead into the second period. The Jam extended their lead to as many as 24 in the second quarter and ended the first half ahead 67-50. White scored 20 of his 25 points in the first half.
Santa Cruz would fight back in the third quarter, cutting the Jam's lead to seven points on several occasions. Overall, the Warriors outscored the Jam 29-22 in the quarter. In the final frame, the Warriors continued to chip away their deficit and came within two points (104-102) with 42.2 seconds left in the game. Bakersfield held their ground on the defensive end and knocked down clutch free-throws in the final seconds of the game that ultimately sealed the road victory.
Xavier Munford nearly recorded a triple-double as he finised with 16 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Cory Jefferson added 16 points and six rebounds, while Xavier Silas and Joel Wright had 12 points apiece. Kyle Casey chipped in 11 points.
Verdell Jones led Santa Cruz with 26 points and six assists, while Daring Hobson came off the bench and posted 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Aaron Craft tallied 12 points and six assists.
Bakersfield will travel next to Los Angeles to face the D-Fenders tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. PT.
