Fort Wayne Mad Ants guard-forward Terran Petteway led all bench players with 30 points to lead the Mad Ants past Raptors 905 127-125 Thursday night at Hershey Centre in Mississauga.
Bruno Caboclo and Lucas Nogueira each had 11 points and Shannon Scott had eight assists in the first quarter to pace Raptors 905 to a 15-point lead over the Mad Ants after one period, 41-26. Petteway had 10 second-quarter points to lead Fort Wayne in the frame as the Mad Ants slimmed the deficit to eight points at halftime, 68-60.
Norman Powell had 14 points for Raptors 905 to lead all scorers in the third quarter, but the Mad Ants outscored Raptors 905 32-25 in the frame to narrow the gap to just one point heading into the fourth quarter, 93-92. Fort Wayne took the lead for the first time since the game's opening basket with its first possession of the final period, then the teams traded leads throughout the quarter, with neither side able to gain more than a four-point advantage until the final 31 seconds, when the Mad Ants pulled away for good.
Leading the Mad Ants in scoring were Petteway (30), John Lucas III (25), CJ Fair (18), Shayne Whittington (16), Rakeem Christmas (15) and Xavier Thames (11). Scoring in double digits for Raptors 905 were Powell (game-high 36), Caboclo (29), Sim Bhullar (20), Nogueira (18) and Scott Suggs (14). Powell also had a game-high 12 rebounds, while Shannon Scott finished with a game-high 12 assists. Powell, Bhullar (11 rebounds) and Caboclo (11 rebounds) each had double-doubles.
Raptors 905 led Fort Wayne in field goal percentage (52.0-47.7), points in the paint (76-36), second-chance points (21-8) and fast-break points (16-8), while the Mad Ants held the advantage in three point percentage (56.0-38.9) and free throw percentage (88.6-77.8).
Raptors 905 is back in action Saturday, March 5 when it plays host to the Maine Red Claws at Hershey Centre in Mississauga at 2 p.m.
