Bakersfield Jam News Release

BAKERSFIELD, December 12, 2013 - The Bakersfield Jam (3-6) let a double-digit lead slip away to lose to the Santa Cruz Warriors (6-2) at home, 112-106.

Bakersfield and Santa Cruz traded buckets in the first half, making it a competitive and close game. Thanks to James Nunnally's three-pointer at the buzzer to end the second quarter, the Jam went into the break ahead 49-48. Things started off nicely in the third quarter for Bakersfield, as they jumped to a 17 point lead, thanks in large part to their hot shooting (61%) from the field. However, momentum completely went into the Warriors' side in the fourth as the Jam failed to create anything on offense and got torched on defense. With an early 18-point lead in the fourth, the Jam let the Warriors slowly catch up until a late surge put Santa Cruz ahead by as many as seven points. Bakersfield ended up getting outscored 46-26 in the final frame.

John Jenkins led the Jam with 18 points. Damion James recorded a double-double off the bench with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Dennis Schroder and James Nunnally each tallied 16 points. In addition, Schroder had a game-high nine assists. Mac Koshwal finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Brian Butch posted 10 points and 15 rebounds.

The Warriors were led by Seth Curry (25 points, 8 assists) and Kiwi Gardner (23 points off the bench). William Buford contributed 20 points.

Bakersfield will next travel to Reno, NV to face the Reno Bighorns on Saturday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. PST.
