SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield Armor will be accepting donations toward the Newtown Memorial Fund during Saturday's game against the Maine Red Claws.

The doors of the MassMutual Center will open at 6:00 p.m. and a donation center will be located outside of section 31 on the main concourse. The donation acceptance comes on the one-year anniversary of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School where the lives of 26 people were taken and many more were injured. The donations will benefit the immediate needs of the families of all that were affected and every proceed counts.

"The Armor are honored to help aid in the relief of the Newtown community," said Springfield Armor president Alex Schwerin. "Every fund raised can contribute toward helping those families that were affected. The events of that day were tragic and will continue to never be forgotten."

The Newtown Memorial Fund is a remembrance that provides care and support to all that are directly affected, and for the entire community, for the long term. In the short term, the fund is here to help the families of the 26 victims, those who were wounded but survived, the twelve kids who witnessed the massacre first-hand, those affected by the shooting as students/faculty/staff of Sandy Hook Elementary and Newtown-located schools, and first responders from the area who were dispatched to Sandy Hook Elementary.

The Armor will return to action tonight at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Maine for the second of three straight meetings between the two teams. Springfield will then return home Saturday, December 14 to host the Red Claws, NBA Development League affiliate of the Boston Celtics, at 7:00 p.m. inside the MassMutual Center.
