
Santa Cruz Warriors Mount Fourth Quarter Comeback to Stun Jam

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors came back from an 18 point fourth quarter deficit to stun the Bakersfield Jam 112-106 Thursday night.
Santa Cruz's Kiwi Gardner exploded for 23 points in nine minutes off the bench in the fourth quarter, shooting 9-of-10 from the field. Seth Curry led all scorers with 25 points and had eight assists, while William Buford scored 20 off the bench. Dewayne Dedmon logged a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards.
All five Jam starters scored in double figures. Bakersfield was paced by John Jenkins, currently on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, who scored 18 points. Dennis Schroder, also on assignment from Atlanta, finished with 16 points and a game-high nine assists. Brian Butch had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
There were four lead changes in the first half, with Bakersfield taking a 49-48 lead at intermission off a James Nunnally three-pointer at the buzzer. The Jam used a 31-point third quarter to extend their lead, which grew to 18 off an Ike Diogu slam dunk with 7:05 left in the final frame. However, in the final seven minutes of the contest, Santa Cruz capped off a 46-point fourth quarter with a 34-10 run behind Kiwi Gardner, who finished with a +/- rating of +23.
Santa Cruz shot 43.6% from the floor compared to Bakersfield's 49.3% field goal shooting. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors shot 59.3% and held the edge in points in the paint (20-8) and second chance points (9-0) over Bakersfield. The Jam shot 38.5% in the fourth.
The Santa Cruz Warriors travel to Los Angeles for the final two games of their five-game road trip.
