Jakaitis Loaned To Portland, Daigneault Returns From Hartford

Charlotte, N.C.- The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League have called-up Checkers netminder Jeff Jakaitis and the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) have reassigned goaltender Maxime Daigneault to Charlotte.

Jakaitis, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, recently won the ECHL Reebok Goaltender of the Week award. In 35 games with the Checkers this season, Jakaitis has a record of 18-12-4 with a goals against average of 2.77 and a save percentage of 91.8%. The Rochester, Minn., native has stellar numbers for the month of January including a 2.48 goals against average and a 94.2% save percentage. During his past four games, Jakaitis has stopped 188 out of 194 shots on net. This call-up marks his second of the season. Jakaitis was named ECHL Goaltender of the Month in October of this season.

Daigneault, 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, has a record of 10-8-1 with a goals against average of 3.10 and save percentage of 89.7% with Charlotte. He didn't play any games for Hartford during his latest call-up. Daigneault was a 2nd round draft pick of the Washington Capitals during the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, he won the Kelly Cup with the Cincinnati Cyclones playing in seven post-season contests. Daigneault will join the team on the road in Gwinnett as the Checkers battle the Gladiators tonight at 7:35 p.m.

The Checkers are playing in their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game will take place March 1 against the Mississippi at 5:00pm. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
