
Jackals Move Into Second Place

Cincinnati, OH- The Elmira Jackals picked up their 30th win of the season tonight at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati with a 4-1 victory over the Cyclones. The Jackals sprung for three goals in the third period while Michael Teslak turned away 20 of 21 shots in front of 4,078.
The first period opened with back and fourth, fast paced hard hitting action. Kaleb Betts and Mike Salekin dropped the gloves midway through the first period to set the tempo. The Jackals took that spark and struck for the first goal of the game at the 15:00 mark. On the power play, Nathan Lutz netted his 6th of the season when he pounded home a Brandon Roach Rebound. Pierre-Luc Faubert also assisted on the play. The Jackals ended the first period with the 1-0 advantage and an 11-4 shot advantage.
The second period was again up and down with big saves on each side. Elmira had three power plays in the second period, but Cincinnati goalkeeper Loic Lacasse put up a wall to hold the Jackals scoreless. Michael Teslak was equal to all five shots thrown his way in the second to kept the score 1-0. Elmira held a 22-9 shot advantage after two periods of play.
Period number three was the most eventful of the night. Cincinnati evened the score at 1-1, 2:33 in when Justin Johnson netted his 11th of the year. Elmira retook the lead with a Brandon Roach tally at the 6:00 mark, Steve Yetman assisted. The Jackals then extended the lead to 3-1 when Benoit Doucet sent a perfect lead pass to Chris Korchinski who netted a breakaway goal, his 19th of the season at the 8:27 mark. The Jackals then put the nail in the coffin at the 13:58 mark when Mike Sgroi tipped a Nathan Lutz slap shot on the power play. Paul McIlveen also assisted on the play. The 4-1 score would end the evening. The Jackals out shot the Cyclones 33-21
With the win the Jackals improve to 30-21-1-4 while the Cyclones fall to 31-21-2-3. With the Win tonight the Jackals move into second place in the North Division.
NEXT UP: The Jackals finish off the weekend doubleheader with a 7:30 p.m. tilt against the Cyclones tomorrow night at US Bank Arena.
