Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A five-run first inning on Wednesday allowed the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to coast to an 11-3 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts in front of 11,429 fans at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The crowd was the second-largest at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville of the last 10 years, surpassed only by the Jumbo Shrimp's July 3 crowd a year ago. Fans enjoyed Independence Day Fireworks and a patriotic Jumbo Shrimp cap giveaway, both presented by Nimnicht Family of Dealerships, as well as a Stahl-Meyer Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Joe Dunand singled off Chattanooga (43-40, 7-7) starter Ryan Lillie (1-1) with two outs in a scoreless first inning. Billy Fleming walked and Gabriel Guerrero, who finished a home run shy of the cycle, followed with a base hit to load the bases. Riley Mahan then drew a free pass to force in the game's first run. Stone Garrett cleared the bags with a three-run triple and Rodrigo Vigil knocked in Garrett with an RBI base hit to make it 5-0 Jacksonville (37-47, 8-6).
With the same score in the third, Guerrero doubled and Mahan walked with one out. Garrett, who matched a career-high with five RBIs, singled in Guerrero and Vigil laced a two-run single to widen the margin to 8-0.
Chattanooga finally got on the board in the fourth. Mitch Nay and Gavin LaValley sandwiched RBI doubles around an Ibandel Isabel RBI ground out for a three-run frame.
That was the entirety of the run production against Jacksonville starter Daniel Castano (1-0). The left-hander ceded three runs on six hits in five innings to earn the win. He struck out four against one walk.
Fleming jumpstarted the fifth with a double before scoring on a Guerrero triple. Two batters later, Garrett registered an RBI ground out to increase the Jumbo Shrimp lead to 10-3.
Brian Miller laced a triple off the right field wall to start the sixth. He scored on Justin Twine's RBI single, putting Jacksonville ahead 11-3.
All eight Jumbo Shrimp position players notched at least one hit to help the club earn a series split with the Lookouts.
Wednesday's winning raffle number of 1591458059 won a prize of $661.
The Jumbo Shrimp begins a five-game series at the Mobile Baybears with Thursday's 7:35 p.m. ET contest. RHP Edward Cabrera (1-0, 4.50 ERA) starts for Jacksonville. Coverage begins at 7:20 p.m. on MiLB.tv, Sunny 102.3 FM, TuneIn and jaxshrimp.com.
