
Burrows to Triple-A Gwinnett, Santiago Activated

PENSACOLA, FL - The Atlanta Braves have made the following roster moves before tonight's 6:35 pm game in Pensacola, which affects the Mississippi Braves roster. LHP Thomas Burrows has been promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett from Mississippi, and RHP Andres Santiago has been transferred to Mississippi from Rookie-Danville
Burrows, 24, an Alabama product, began the season at Triple-A Gwinnett and transferred to Mississippi on May 25. At Gwinnett, Burrows appeared in 16 games and recorded four saves out of five save opportunities. Throughout his 16 games, Burrows posted an ERA of 5.21 across 19.0 innings, allowing 11 earned runs off of 20 hits. At Mississippi, Burrows pitched in eight games and recorded a save in his one opportunity. Throughout his eight games, Burrows posted an ERA of 1.59 across 11.1 innings, allowing only two runs off of six hits while striking out 13. Burrows did not give up a single walk and kept the opposing batting average to .150 and 0.53 WHIP.
In the month of June, Burrows posted an ERA of 0.87 in seven games and 10.1 innings pitched. In those seven games, Burrows faced 36 batters and struck out 11, keeping them to a batting average of .139 and a 0.48 WHIP.
The Florence, Alabama native was originally drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 2016 and was traded to the Atlanta Braves on January 11, 2017. Burrows was originally promoted to the Mississippi Braves from the Florida Fire Frogs on July 20, 2018. Burrows was named a MILB.com Organization All-Star in 2017.
Santiago, 29, from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, has split the 2019 season between Triple-A Gwinnett, Double-A Mississippi. At Gwinnett, Santiago appeared in 11 games (starting in six) posting an ERA of 6.23 across 34.2 innings. At Mississippi, Santiago has pitched in five games (starting in one) posting a 1.50 ERA in 12.0 innings.
In his last game for Gwinnett, Santiago pitched 2.2 innings and posted an ERA of 6.23 allowing four runs on four hits. Opposing batters had a .312 batting average against Santiago with a WHIP of 1.50. In the month of June at Mississippi, Santiago pitched in 8.2 innings and had an ERA of 2.08 over three games (starting in one) where he allowed two runs off of five hits. Opposing batters had a batting average of .172 and a WHIP of 1.38.
Santiago was placed on the 7-day injured list on June 17 and was transferred to Gwinnett from Mississippi on June 27, making one start, then was transferred to Danville on June 28.
The Dodgers drafted Santiago out of Colegio Carmen Sol (Puerto Rico) in the 16th round (506th overall) in 2007. Santiago elected free agency in November 2015 and was signed by the Atlanta Braves in March 2017.
