JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacob Amaya and Jake Mangum each homered in Sunday's contest but the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp failed to salvage the series in a 9-8 loss to the Worcester Red Sox at 121 Financial Ballpark.

With Jacksonville (40-49, 8-7) ahead 3-2, Niko Kavadas drew a leadoff walk in the top of the second inning against Jumbo Shrimp starter Chi Chi González (4-7). Stephen Scott doubled, plating Kavadas to tie the game. David Hamilton got a base knock, scoring Scott and giving Worcester (49-40, 10-4) the leg up. Nick Sogard singled, putting runners on the corners and Hamilton crossed the dish following an error on a rundown. Rafaela reached on an infield single, allowing Sogard to score and give the Red Sox a 6-3 lead.

The Red Sox tacked on another run in the third. Daniel Palka doubled and scored following a single by Scott.

Amaya started the bottom of the third inning with a walk. Xavier Edwards reached on a fielder's choice and an error put Amaya on third. Edwards stole second and Groshans knocked in both runners with a two-run double. Jerar Encarnacion made it a one-run game with a double of his own, driving in Groshans to make it 7-6.

Worcester put up two more runs in the top of the fifth frame. Palka kicked off the inning with a double followed by a single from Narciso Crook, who advanced to second on the throw back in. Kavadas walked to load the bases and Scott batted in Palka, reaching on a fielder's choice. One out later, Sogard pieced a single, scoring Crook to give the Red Sox a 9-6 advantage.

Jake Mangum (3) homered in the bottom of the sixth inning to get one back for the Jumbo Shrimp and cut the deficit to two.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Edwards walked. Following a 48-minute rain delay, Edwards advanced to second on a ground out and Groshans singled, scoring Edwards. However, Jacksonville could get no closer, getting swept at home for the first time since 2018.

Worcester got off to a hot start in the first inning. Hamilton led off the game with a walk and one out later, Ceddanne Rafaela was hit by a pitch. Rafaela was then caught stealing, but Hamilton scored on the throw. In the ensuing at-bat Bobby Dalbec (22) homered to give the Red Sox a 2-0 advantage.

Jacksonville's bats were hot to open the game as well. Mangum singled to start the bottom of the first inning and Amaya (10) went yard to tie the game. Following a ground out Peyton Burdick doubled. He was brought home courtesy of a Jordan Groshans single, giving the Jumbo Shrimp an early 3-2 lead.

Norwith Gudino (4-4) entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, pitching 1.1 innings allowing 1 hit and giving up 1 earned run to slow down Jacksonville's momentum.
