IronPigs Complete Sweep of Knights with Late Rally and Stellar Pitching

Allentown, PA - Tied at 1-1 heading into the last of the seventh inning, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (44-43, 8-6) scored six unanswered runs the rest of the way to complete a three-game sweep over the Charlotte Knights (37-52, 2-12) with a 7-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.

The IronPigs got the scoring started in the fourth. Jim Haley singled with one away and Esteban Quiroz followed with a walk. After a strikeout, Vito Friscia singled to rightfield to score Haley with the first run of the game.

Charlotte scored their first run of the series with a sacrifice fly from Victor Reyes in the top of the sixth, snapping a 25.2 inning scoreless streak for IronPigs pitching.

In the seventh, the IronPigs took the lead back. Haley put the IronPigs back ahead with a sacrifice fly before Quiroz plated two with a double to make it 4-1.

Three insurance runs came across in the eighth for the IronPigs. With two outs and the bases loaded, Simon Muzziotti blistered a two-run double and Haley followed with an infield single, driving in his second run of the game to make it 7-1.

Ben Bowden (3-2) collected the win in relief for the IronPigs, working a perfect seventh, recording a strikeout.

Ben Holmes (0-1) suffered the loss for the Knights, allowing three runs in one inning on two hits and two walks.

Following an off-day on Monday, the IronPigs kick off a six-game road trip against the Toledo Mud Hens on Tuesday, July 18. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday from Fifth Third Field.
