SHRIMP RALLY FOR 8-7 VICTORY

The Jumbo Shrimp erased a five-run deficit on Saturday to beat Mississippi 8-7. The M-Braves opened up the scoring in the first inning, plating a run on Drew Waters' RBI triple and another on Riley Unroe's RBI ground out. RBI singles from Carlos Martinez and Alejandro Salazar in the second and third, respectively, increased the deficit to 4-0. A Joe Dunand sacrifice fly in the sixth put Jacksonville on the board, but Mississippi added a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 6-1. Stone Garrett tripled and scored on an error in the seventh. In the eighth, Dunand popped a two-run home run and J.C. Millan and Santiago Chavez each notched RBI singles to tie the score. Millan collected another RBI base hit in the 10th and Chavez followed with an RBI double to make it 8-6. The Braves scored in the bottom of the 10th, but could get no closer.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Jacksonville trailed Mississippi 6-1 at the end of the sixth inning on Saturday at Trustmark Park. It seemed as if the clubs would be playing out the contest to set up a rubber match on Sunday; not only was the Jumbo Shrimp's biggest comeback of the season four runs (4/24 at Biloxi), the club was 0-27 when trailing after the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, on the campaign. In addition, Jacksonville was averaging just 2.5 runs per game. Sure enough, the Jumbo Shrimp rallied for their biggest come-from-behind win of the year, snapping a four-set skid and earning their first road series victory of the season in the process. Jacksonville has now won five of their last seven games.

RING OF FIRE

Sixto Sanchez struck out six and allowed three earned runs in 5.0 innings on Saturday in Mississippi, continuing a strong stretch of pitching for Jumbo Shrimp starters. In the first 20 games of the season, Jacksonville starting pitchers compiled a 3-13 record and 5.44 ERA over 91.0 innings. Jumbo Shrimp lid-lifters combined for 49 walks (4.8 BB/9), 89 strikeouts (8.8 K/9) and 91 hits allowed (9.0 H/9). However, the Jumbo Shrimp have seen some stellar starting pitching over the last 29 games. During this stretch, Jacksonville starters have combined for a 2.42 ERA (46 ER in 171.0 IP). Jumbo Shrimp starters have walked 46 (2.4 BB/9), fanned 140 (7.4 K/9) and yielded 131 hits (6.9 H/9).

YAMA, YAMA, YAMA

On Monday against Montgomery, Jordan Yamamoto fired seven no-hit innings, ceding just one walk against four strikeouts. The 23-year-old right-hander makes the start in Sunday's series finale in Mississippi on quite the roll of late. Over his last four starts, Yamamoto has surrendered just six runs, five earned, on 11 hits in 25.0 innings for a 1.80 ERA. During this span, the Honolulu native has whiffed 20 against five walks. Out of the 87 pitchers who have tossed at least 20.0 innings in the Southern League this season, Yamamoto has registered the 23rd-lowest line drive rate at 15.0 percent.

FOUR THE WIN

Jacksonville knocked off Mississippi 8-7 on Saturday, the fifth time in the last seven games that the club has eclipsed the four-run marker. For a team that has thrived on strong pitching throughout the season, that four-run barrier has been critical to meet for the Jumbo Shrimp to find success. When Jacksonville scores at least four runs in a game, the club is 15-3. However, the Jumbo Shrimp have plated three runs or fewer in 31 of their 49 contests, and the club has posted just a 4-27 record in those affairs. Jacksonville has now won their last 13 games when tallying at least four runs in a contest.

THOU SHALT NOT STEAL

Jumbo Shrimp catchers have been a bright spot defensively all season for the club. Santiago Chavez's 16 men caught stealing is the most of any backstop in Double-A. Additionally, as a team, the Jumbo Shrimp have gunned down 29 potential base stealers, second at the Double-A level and tied for fourth out of 120 teams in MiLB. Jacksonville's 43.9 percent caught stealing rate is the second-best of any Double-A club.

SHRIMP SKEWERS

Joe Dunand finally halted Jacksonville's home run drought at 11 games and 120 innings with his two-run blast in the eighth inning on Saturday... A Jumbo Shrimp win on Sunday coupled with a Mobile loss would move Jacksonville out of the cellar of the Southern Division for the first time since April 16. The Jumbo Shrimp have spent the last 39 days in fifth place.
