Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (29-20) suffered their worst defeat of the 2019 season on Sunday, falling to the Jackson Generals (28-20) by a score of 8-1 on a steamy afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits have now lost a season-high four-straight games.
Josh Fleming (4-3) was activated off the Injured List with a bad hamstring for Sunday's start, but Andy Young's first-inning RBI-single put the Generals up 1-0 early. The Biscuits would answer back in the third, however, with Josh Lowe's opposite field home run off Bo Takahashi (4-2) evening the issue at a run apiece.
The game remained deadlocked at one until the fifth, when the Generals loaded the bases for Jamie Westbrook. The Generals left fielder then rolled his first hit of the series into right and made it a 3-1 game with a single. Two batters later, Young was at it again, ripping a two-run double into the left field corner to make it a 5-1 contest. A Kevin Padlo error at the third capped off a five-run inning for the Generals.
The Biscuits tallied 11 hits, but went just 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left a season-high 13 men on-base against Jackson pitching, and the Generals tacked on two more runs in the ninth on a two-run single by Drew Ellis.
The Biscuits will have an off-day on Monday and will try to regroup with a half-game lead atop the North Division standings heading into a five-game series on the road at Birmingham beginning on Tuesday, with Montgomery's bullpen taking on Bernardo Flores (2-5) at 7:05 PM CT.
The Biscuits will be back at Riverwalk Stadium to open up a five-game series with the Tennessee Smokies on Sunday, June 2 when there will be a Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Jersey Giveaway. The series also includes Alabama Agriculture Night on Tuesday, June 4; A Trucker Hat Giveaway presented by U.S. Air Force on Wednesday, June 5; and 80's Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway presented by Gipson's Tire Pros on Thursday, June 6.
