CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Despite the offensive efforts of Luis Gonzalez and Gavin Sheets, the Birmingham Barons (19-30) dropped the series finale against the Chattanooga Lookouts (26-22) by an 8-4 final Sunday night at AT&T Field.

Gonzalez recorded a pair of hits, including a solo shot, while Sheets tallied two base knocks of his own. However, the Barons could not sustain an early lead against Lookouts right-hander Tony Santillan (W, 2-2).

Gonzalez's blast, his fourth of the season, gave Birmingham a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. He finished the night with three hits.

Chattanooga responded, however, with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and one apiece in the second and third.

The Lookouts led 4-1 before Barons first baseman Gavin Sheets brought Birmingham within a pair with an RBI-single in the fourth.

A solo shot off the bat of Yermin Mercedes cut the deficit to two once more in the sixth. However, Chattanooga's Mitch Nay halted the momentum moments later with a solo shot of his own.

Kodi Medeiros (L, 0-7) suffered the loss after he surrendered five runs (all earned) on seven hits. The southpaw notched a season-high seven strikeouts but remained winless since he joined the Barons via trade July 26, 2018.

The Lookouts tallied at least seven runs for the eighth consecutive game against Birmingham.

Right-hander Alec Hansen and left-hander Hunter Schryver logged relief appearances for the Barons. Hansen allowed two runs on four hits in 1.1 innings, while Schryver tossed surrendered one run in two innings.

Birmingham squandered a bases-loaded, nobody-out situation in the eighth when faced with a 7-3 deficit.

The Barons will return home for a five-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits. Birmingham will send left-hander Bernardo Flores (2-5, 3.17) to the mound in the series opener.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CT at Regions Field and the game will be broadcast via JOX 2/3.
