Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp play at the Biloxi Shuckers in Monday's 7:35 p.m. ET contest. LHP Trevor Rogers (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his Double-A debut for the Shrimp against Shuckers RHP Dylan File (7-1, 2.79 ERA). Coverage begins at 7:20 p.m. ET on MiLB.tv, TuneIn, the MiLB First Pitch app and JaxShrimp.com.

JACKSONVILLE MOVES INTO FIRST WITH 3-1 WIN

Sixto Sanchez pitched six scoreless innings and Jazz Chisholm homered on Sunday to lead the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to a 3-1 victory over the Biloxi Shuckers. Jacksonville got on the board on Riley Mahan's RBI single in the fourth inning. Chisholm cracked a solo shot in the sixth to make it 2-0. One inning later, Santiago Chavez notched an RBI double. In the bottom of the seventh, Max McDowell collected an RBI two-bagger to finally put Biloxi on the board at 3-1. Sanchez scattered five hits and a pair of walks in his six frames, striking out five. Tommy Eveld pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.

THROUGH THE GOOD TIMES AND THE BAD

Jacksonville went into play on June 13 with a woeful 25-41 (.379) record. The Jumbo Shrimp have gone 29-18 (.617) since that point behind some dominant pitching. In the 47 games since June 13, Jacksonville has surrendered the fewest hits (306) and tied for the fewest runs (141) at the Double-A level. The Jumbo Shrimp also place first in Double-A in both WHIP (1.06) and batting average against (.205), third in ERA (2.82) and seventh in walks (131) during this span.

CRAZY, STUPID, GLOVE.

Jacksonville has committed 26 errors in their last 32 games, pushing their season total to 84, a figure that ranks right in the middle of the pack in the Southern League. That said, errors are not necessarily the most effective way of judging a club's defense. An argument for the Jumbo Shrimp being a strong defensive club can be found easily in how often the club has turned batted balls into outs, otherwise known as defensive efficiency. Jacksonville's .727 defensive efficiency is the best such mark in the Southern League.

CONNECT FOUR

Buoyed by strong pitching throughout the season, the Jumbo Shrimp offense has been given a bigger margin of error by not needing to score huge quantities of runs to win games. In fact, Jacksonville has won each of its last 21 contests when hitting the four-run marker. On the season, when the Jumbo Shrimp tally at least four scores, the club is a sterling 41-6 (.872). Jacksonville, however, has plated three runs or fewer in 11 of their last 14 contests.

"NEW IS ALWAYS BETTER." - BARNEY STINSON

Through the month of July, the Jumbo Shrimp homered just 41 times all season, tied for the second-fewest such mark out of the 120 full-season Minor League Baseball teams. Interestingly, Lewin Diaz and Jazz Chisholm had combined for 37 long balls in the Minnesota and Arizona organizations, respectively, before getting traded to the Miami Marlins and earning an assignment with Jacksonville. The Jumbo Shrimp's two trade acquisitions have accounted for at least one home run in each of the last four games, totaling five during that span to push the club's season total to 46.

A SONG OF FIRE AND ICE

Jacksonville has surrendered just 66 runs in their last 24 games (2.8 per game), and the club's starting pitching has been a huge culprit behind those run-prevention efforts. During this span, Jumbo Shrimp starters have combined for a 2.41 ERA (35 ER in 130.2 IP). The club's starting pitchers have posted 127 strikeouts (8.7 K/9) against 40 walks (2.8 BB/9) and 102 hits allowed (7.0 H/9) in the process. In comparison, Jumbo Shrimp starters had compiled a 6.13 ERA (32 ER in 47.0 IP) over the previous nine games.

OF MICE AND 'PEN

From June 26 through the eighth inning on July 5, the Jumbo Shrimp bullpen netted a 36-inning streak without an earned run. That roll is in the midst of a stretch that has been devastating opposing lineups late in games. Over the last 49 contests, Jumbo Shrimp relief pitchers have tossed 165.1 innings with just 39 runs, 34 earned, for a 1.85 ERA. During this 49-game span, the Jumbo Shrimp's bullpen has collectively ceded just 95 hits (5.2 H/9) while whiffing 178 (9.7 K/9) against 53 walks (2.9 BB/9).

SHRIMP SKEWERS

Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Sixto Sanchez, who started on Sunday at Biloxi, has not allowed a run in his last 19 innings. The native of San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic is 5-0 over his last five starts, posting a 0.84 ERA (3 ER in 32.1 IP) in the process. During this span, which dates back to July 13, Sanchez has whiffed 28 against five walks... Jacksonville has a share of first place for the first time since July 15. The Jumbo Shrimp would take sole possession of first with a win over Biloxi in Monday's series finale.
