Lexington County Blowfish News Release

One day after scoring just one run the Blowfish offense came alive Sunday night. Tyler Jackson drove in four runs and the Blowfish batted around in the seventh inning to beat the Fayetteville SwampDogs 12-8 at Capital City Stadium. It is the first loss for the SwampDogs in the second half of the season and the first in seven games overall.

The SwampDogs (6-1, 23-12) struck for two runs in the top of the first. Nick Crucet scored on a wild pitch and Cody Hudson stole home after catcher Joe Jackson attempted to throw out Jay Cannon as he stole second.

The Blowfish (3-4, 12-23) got a run back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a two-out solo home run from Tyler Jackson. Columbia would score two more in the third thanks to an RBI single from Zach Smith and a bases loaded walk to Carlos Santana. Zach Smith went 3-6 on the day while scoring three runs and driving one in. He has now hit safely in nine straight games.

The teams traded runs in the fifth. Rob Harding stole home while Carlos Santana was in a run down between first and second. Both teams scored a run in the game via stealing home.

Alex Brooks relieved Adam Westmoreland in the sixth. Westmoreland made his official Coastal Plain League debut in the game. He did start for the Blowfish in the U.S.C. Alumni Game. Brooks left in after a third of an inning with an apparent back injury. Brooks faced five batters and gave up two hits a walk and hit a batter. Chad Hodges (2-0) came on to finish the inning.

The Blowfish got two back in the sixth and then batted around in the seventh scoring six runs in the inning to regain the lead. The big blow came off the bat of Tyler Jackson who hit a bases-loaded triple off the center field wall to drive in three. All six runs were charged to Mike Hebert (1-4) who relieved starter Brewer Carter in the sixth inning. Hebert, who held a 7.63 ERA coming into the game, allowed the six runs in 1.1 innings on seven hits and a walk.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Blowfish who head on a four game road trip starting Monday in Morehead City. The Blowfish return to Capital City Stadium on Friday July 15 for a double header against the Florence RedWolves. The SwampDogs return home Monday to host a double header against the Wilmington Sharks.
