Moore Helps Lift Steamers

EDENTON, NC - Jordan Moore, in his first start of the year for the Steamers pitched five innings, striking out seven in the 11-4 victory over Wilson. The win ensured a .500 record against the North Division rival with six more games left between them.

The game began with a bang for the Tobs. A lead-off walk to Zac Mitchell was compounded by Moore, when with two outs, he walked Ryan Mathews. Joe Costigan brought a run home with a single and Ryan Daughtry brought home the remaining two runners with a double to put the Tobs in front 3-0 heading to bottom of the first.

Edenton evened the score against Brice Rivenbark in the home half. Brett Christopher reached on an infield single. Joey Wendle doubled him to third. Brian Blasik plated Christopher with an RBI groundout to get the Steamers on the board. Zach Stewart picked up an RBI with an infield single and with the bases loaded after back-to-back walks to Vinnie Mejia and Nathan Burns, Nick Gaeta walked to score Stewart and tie the game 3-3.

Wilson scored again in the top of the second off Moore. A two out walk to Zac Mitchell started the rally. Mitchell stole second base and Keith Morrisroe singled him home to re-claim the lead for Wilson 4-3.

Edenton failed to score in the second or third innings. Their bats came to life in the fourth against Rivenbark. Christopher walked, Wendle singled and Blasik walked to load the bases with no outs. Stewart hit an RBI ground out to tie the game and Nathan Burns drove in two with a two out single to put Edenton ahead for good 6-4.

Rivenbark lasted 3.2 innings, he allowed six runs (all earned) on seven hits and six walks; he fanned three in the losing effort.

Jordan Moore, after allowing the four runs in the first two frames settled in and kept the Tobs off balance for the rest of the night. He struck out the side in the third and only faced three batters in the fourth. After a scoreless fifth inning Moore was lifted after five solid innings, allowing the four runs on five hits. He walked four and struck out seven in the win.

Edenton padded the lead in the seventh against Tyler King. King, in his second inning of relief walked Ryan Brenner and Joey Wendle. He then committed a throwing error that moved both runners up 90 feet and Brian Blasik lined a two-run single into left field for an 8-4 Steamer lead.

The icing on the cake for the Steamers came in the eighth against Tyler Saltsman. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Christopher, who delivered a two-run single to make it 10-4 Steamers. Joey Wendle picked up his third hit of the night driving in Saunders to make it 11-4 Steamers.

Ethan Cole pitched a one, two, three ninth inning and the Steamers defeated the Tobs for the eighth time in 2011. With the win, Edenton is now 5-0 against Wilson at Historic Hicks Field.

Moore improved to 2-0 and Rivenbark fell to 2-4 on the season. Edenton travels to Peninsula tomorrow night in another North Division match-up.
