COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia Blowfish used a six-run seventh inning to rally and beat the Fayetteville SwampDogs, 12-8, on Sunday night at Capital City Stadium.

The loss is the first of the second half for Fayetteville (23-12, 6-1), who still leads the CPL South over the second-place Wilmington Sharks. The Sharks come to town for a critical doubleheader on Monday night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

The SwampDogs led 8-4 after scoring five runs in the top of the fifth inning. But Columbia (12-23, 3-4) scored two in the bottom half of the inning, one off starter Brewer Carter and another off reliever Mike Hebert (1-4). Carter finished his start having allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out just one in 5.1 innings of work.

The Blowfish then had one on and two out in the sixth when Hebert struck out Demontez Jones to seemingly end the inning. But the pitch in the dirt skipped away from catcher Sal Giardina, allowing Carlos Santana to score and Jones to reach first on the wild pitch. Columbia then pounded out five straight hits, culminating with a bases loaded triple from Tyler Jackson and back-to-back doubles from Bricen Celek and Rob Harding.

Chad Hodges (2-0) pitched 1.2 innings to earn the victory for Columbia. Jeff Murray threw a scoreless eighth and ninth to preserve the win in a non-save situation.

Eric Grabe did manage to pick up another hit - a double in the third inning - to notch the 155th hit of his CPL career. He now sits just three hits shy of tying Will Skinner's record of 158. Cody Davis delivered a two-run double, and Billy Urban had an RBI double as well.

Each team also managed to steal home. Cody Hudson swiped the plate as part of a delayed double steal in the top of the first inning for the SwampDogs, while Harding was able to race home from third during a rundown of Santana between first and second base in the fifth inning for the Blowfish.

The SwampDogs return home on Monday for a doubleheader with the Wilmington Sharks on Faith and Family Night. Gates will open at 5 p.m., with first pitch of game one set for 6:05 p.m. at J.P. Riddle Stadium.
