Morehead City Marlins News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins suffered their second consecutive one-run loss on Sunday night, falling to the Wilmington by the score of 5-4 after the Sharks scored four runs in the eighth inning off of just one hit. On Saturday evening, the Marlins were defeated in by the Fayetteville SwampDogs at J. P. Riddle Stadium, 4-3, following a 2-0 lead at the seventh inning stretch.
On Sunday, the Marlins and Sharks were tied at one run heading into the seventh, and the Marlins took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the frame. In seven of Morehead City's nineteen losses this season, the Marlins have either had the lead or been tied with their opponents after six innings of play.
Despite the narrow defeat, there were some bright spots in the evening for the Marlins. Outfielder Jake Luce got the start in center and was 2-for-4 while batting in the leadoff spot, and designated hitter Chase McDonald mashed his seventh home run of the season. New arrival Mike Mercurio also provided a pinch-hit 2-RBI double in the seventh to give the Marlins a 3-1 lead.
The Marlins host the Columbia Blowfish on Monday and Tuesday, with both games set to start at 7:05 p.m. Then, on Wednesday, Morehead City will play an exhibition game with the Heroes of the Diamond, a team of service members within the United States Armed Forces. That game will also begin at 7:05, and gates open all three evenings at 6 o'clock.
Monday will be Chamber Night, as well as Military Monday, sponsored by Golden Corral. Tuesday night's matchup will be entail another Two For Tuesday and the Marlins T-Shirt Giveaway.
