
Jacks Lose Physical Battle with Bucks, 5-2

(Odessa, TX) - Three third period goals by Laredo was the difference as the Jackalopes were on the wrong side of a 5-2 score in a physical battle on Saturday night at the Ector County Coliseum. Two Game Misconducts and a 10-minute Misconduct were handed out in the game towards the Bucks.
Laredo's James Hiebert netted the game winner at 8:10 of the third period cutting in front of the net from the corner and deflecting a shot off the right leg of Jacks' goalie, Juha Toivonen. Rick Kozak and Adam Rivet added insurance markers for the Bucks in the final frame - Rivet's was an empty net goal.
Both teams exchanged first period goals by Laredo's Shawn Snider and Odessa's Jean Bourbeau to knot the game at 1-1 after one period of play.
Each team found the back of the net in the second period keeping the game tied at 2-2 when Bobby Russell scored for the Bucks at 3:38, while the Jacks added a power play goal from Jeff Pierce at 9:58. Sebastien Thinel and Phil Plante assisted on the Pierce goal.
101 penalty minutes were racked up in the game between the two teams as Hiebert was handed the 10-minute Misconduct for instigating a fight in the first period, while Kozak and Laredo's Ryan Salvis each received Game Misconducts. Kozak's for intervening in a fight and Salvis for a spearing penalty.
The Jacks earned 31 of those penalty minutes. Laredo's James Hiebert finished with 26.
Both teams start their playoff season on Friday, March 27th at the Ector County Coliseum when Odessa hosts the Bucks in Game one of the Conference Semifinals. Game time is 7:05 PM.
