
Bucks Beat Up On \'Jacks In 5-2 Win

ODESSA, TX- The Laredo Bucks beat the Odessa Jackalopes 5-2 Saturday night in the regular season finale at the Ector County Coliseum. The Bucks finish the regular season at 36-23-5 (77 points), as they won five of their final six games.
The game was tied at 2-2 entering the third period, but Laredo struck three times in the final frame to take the victory.
James Hiebert scored the go-ahead goal on the power-play 8:10 into the third, with Rick Kozak and Adam Rivet (empty net) adding insurance late in the game.
Andrew Martin had a stellar game in net for Laredo, as he set aside 37 of 39 Odessa shots.
The two teams combined for 89 penalty minutes in the game.
The Bucks would jump out in front of the Jackalopes just 1:07 into the game as Shawn Snider picked up his first Laredo goal. Snider tipped in Alex Goupil's shot from the right hash mark.
Odessa (39-19-6, 84 points) tied the game at 1-1 when Jean Bourbeau tipped in a shot from the point on an Odessa two-on-one break. The goal was Bourbeau's 10th of the season for Odessa.
The two teams came out of the gates aggressive as they combined for 32 mintues of penalties in the first 20 minutes play.
Laredo was outshot in the first period 15-8.
The Bucks would re-take the lead 3:38 into the second period, when Bobby Russell jammed home a rebound in front of the Jackalopes net. The goal was Russell's first since coming off of the 30-day IR on Thursday, and his ninth of the season.
Jeff Pierce would tie the game at 2-2 when he slammed home a power-play goal from the slot 9:58 into the second period. The strike was Pierce's 22nd of the season.
The two teams nearly engaged in an all out brawl in the second period, as three separate fights broke out during the final seven minutes. The two teams combined for 59 minutes of penalties in the second period, including two game misconducts.
Laredo was outshot for the second straight period by a count of 15-8, and outshot for the game 39-22.
Toivonen stopped 17 of 21 Bucks shots in the loss.
The Bucks and Jackalopes will open the Southern Conference Semi-Finals next Friday March 27th in Odessa.
