Scorpions Trick and Save Way to Victory in Season Finale
March 21, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Behind a career high 56 saves by Kyle McNulty and a Chris Robertson hat trick, the Scorpions blinded the Sundogs 7-1 in the regular season finale. New Mexico finished the season 26-33-4.
An early power play helped the Scorpions get on the board as Seth Leonard made a perfect pass from the side boards towards the net. Chris Robertson was on the doorstep and tipped the puck into the net for his 32nd goal of the season.
Adam Perry tied the game when he put his own rebound in just over the outstretched pad of Kyle McNulty. Jordan Foote put the Scorps back on top with a backhand shot at the 15:46 mark of the first period.
The Scorpions kept the foot on the gas pedal in the second period. Neil Trimm found Torren Delforte in between the circles. Delforte in one motion whipped the puck past goalie Joel Gistedt for his 23rd goal of the season.
Delforte assisted for his second point as he tried to put the puck on net, but it hit the boards and bounced back towards the crease. Robertson grabbed the puck and flipped a backhander into the net making it 4-1.
New Mexico left no doubt in anyone's mind who would win this game with a three goal third period. Seth Leonard scored shorthanded at the 14:54 mark, giving him a career high, 30 goals, this season.
On the very next shift Robertson finished his hat trick with another shorthanded goal. Rookie Jordan Foote finished his first season with the final goal of the 2008-09 campaign with 2:10 remaining in the contest.
The Scorpions are selling their season worn jerseys. The black and white game jerseys are being sold for $400 per jersey. This is the only way to get your hands on an authentic, game worn jersey from your favorite Scorpions player. All jerseys will be autographed after the season. Show your Scorps pride by donning the jersey worn by your hockey team.
