Rage Lose Butler for the Season
March 21, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
The Rocky Mountain Rage received some harsh news just before their final home game of the regular season last night. Assistant captain and leading defensive scorer Tyler Butler suffered a shoulder injury during the first shift of Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Colorado Eagles and will miss team's first trip to the playoffs having been placed on season-ending injured reserve.
The Rage made several other IR moves today in advance of tonight's regular season finale in Amarillo against the Gorillas. Both Daymen Rycroft and Pat Sutton have been activated from 14-day IR, while David Morelli and Preston Briggs have been placed on the 14-day injured list.
This marks the second straight year that Morelli has played the first 63 games of the campaign before missing the final game of the regular season. Last year Rocky Mountain had five individuals that played all 64 games, including current players Rycroft, Butler, Clay Plume, and Simon Watson. With Morelli out of the line-up tonight, no one on the roster will achieve the same accomplishment this season.
As they play their final tune-up tonight in Amarillo before the playoffs begin next week, the Rage look to snap out of a winless skid that reached a season-high five games (0-3-2) last night with a last-minute 5-4 loss to the Gorillas. All of tonight's play-by-play action will be carried live on the CHL Network at www.rockymountainrage.com beginning at 6 p.m. MDT.
Rocky Mountain will be the fifth seed out of the CHL's Northern Conference, but its opponent in the first round of the President's Cup Playoffs will not be determined until after tonight's slate of games. If the Rage's first round opponent is the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, Game One of a best-of-three series would be at Broomfield Event Center on Monday, March 23, at 7:05 p.m. If they face-off against the Oklahoma City Blazers instead, their first home game would be Thursday, March 26, also at 7:05 p.m.
Playoff tickets are already on sale, with prices remaining the same as the regular season: $5 kids tickets (12 & under); $10 student tickets with ID; and $22 - $44 adult tickets. Tickets will be available at the BEC Box Office, www.Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, or Charge-by-Phone at 800-745-3000.
