New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The Nashua Pride cooled off the New Jersey Jackals, as they snapped their five game winning streak with a 6-5 victory.

With Wilton Veras out of the lineup, it was safe to assume that the Jackals would have problems on the left side of the infield, and it showed immediately. In the bottom half of the first inning, the Jackals committed one error, and another play was originally scored an error, but was changed upon review. The error by Joe Mihalics started off the game, and a single by Larry Bethea, which deflected off the glove of Reyes at third base, allowed Sean Dobson to score. Two batters later, a two-RBI double by Billy Becher made is a 3-0 lead over the Jackals.

In the third, the Pride turned to the longball as they continued to tattoo Jackal newcomer T.J. Stanton. Back-to-back solo homeruns by Jayson Bass and Larry Bethea made is a 5-0 advantage by the Pride.

It took the Jackals till the fifth to touch up Pride starter Jarred Lavergne. An RBI single by Jason Tuttle scored the first run, and a groundout by Guillermo Reyes scored the other.

New Jersey continued to put the pressure on the Pride in the sixth, with two more runs. Consecutive RBI singles by Clay Kuklick and Zack Smithlin brought the Jackals within a run. The Pride got one of the runs back in the bottom half on the inning, via Andy Dillard's RBI single.

But again the Jackals wouldn't go quietly. Alex Fernandez reached on an error that allowed Reyes to score, but it could have been a much bigger inning for the Jackals. With the bases loaded and one out, Kuklick grounded out into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play. The double play not only ended the inning, but it also ended the Jackal scoring for the evening, as they fell just short.

T.J. Stanton lost his first start as a Jackal. The win went to Nashua's Jarrad Lavergne. Derrick DePriest pitched a perfect ninth for the save.
