North Shore Spirit News Release

Chris Rowan made a triumphant return to the Spirit lineup on Friday night, capping off a come-from-behind win with a game-winning triple, his second of the game, to give North Shore a 5-4 victory over the Sussex Skyhawks in the series opener.

Sussex opened the scoring in the top of the second. After Josh Ury leadoff with a double, Spirit starter Chris Farley (6-3) was removed with an apparent injury. Two batters later, Abraham Ayala lifted a sacrifice fly to center, giving the Skyhawks the 1-0 lead. Sussex would tack on two more runs in the inning thanks to a Marcos Agramonte RBI groundout and a Robert LeNoir run-scoring single.

North Shore quickly responded with a three spot of their own in the home half of the inning. Alex Trezza got things started with his league-leading 14th homerun of the season, a solo-shot to deep right. After a Jeff Brooks double, Chris Rowan lifted a fly ball to left that Scott Grimes lost in the lights, resulting in an RBI triple for the Spirit shortstop. A Jon deVries RBI groundout knotted the score at three.

North Shore would grab the lead in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an Andrew Wishy sacrifice fly.

The score would stay 4-3 until the seventh when Agramonte drove home the game tying run with a sac-fly to right.

In the eighth, Rowan would come through with some two-out magic. After a Wishy double, Rowan laced a Derek Hawk offering into the gap in left-center for the game-winning hit.

Dennis Robinson (4-4) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win. Kevin Fitzgerald retired the side in the ninth for his league-leading 14th save. Hawk suffered the loss for the Skyhawks.

The Spirit and the Skyhawks resume their three-game set tomorrow night at Fraser Field. Game time is set for 6:05 p.m. and the Spirit will once again be lighting the skies over Fraser Field with a post-game fireworks display.
