Elmira Jackals News Release


The Elmira Jackals posted a 5-2 win over the Florida Everblades on Friday night at First Arena before falling for the first time this season to the Wheeling Nailers on the road on Saturday, 3-2.

On Friday night, Timo Pielmeier had his second strong outing of the 2011-2012 season, making 40 saves to help Elmira earn the victory. Mike Radja and Artem Demkov each had two goals while Maxime Gratchev scored his first of the year to give the Jackals a two-goal lead late in the third period.

Elmira jumped out to a 2-0 second-period lead in Wheeling on Saturday before the Nailers responded with three-straight goals to hand the Jackals their first defeat of the season. Jean Bourbeau and Mike Ratchuk scored for Elmira, while Brian Stewart made a career-high 53 saves on 56 shots.

The Jackals host the South Carolina Stingrays on Halloween Weekend at First Arena this Friday and Saturday at 7:35 p.m. The Jackals invite their fans to dress up and participate in a costume contest on the ice on both Friday and Saturday. Elmira will also give out its 2011-2012 poster schedule during the weekend series. DEMKOV DELIVERS AGAIN

Demkov is tied with Radja for the team lead with four goals. The Belarusian rookie had goals in each of the Jackals' first three home games, with his fourth goal of the season on Friday proving to be the game winner. Demkov and Radja are tied for the league lead in goals scored along with seven other players entering the ECHL's third week.

PENALTY KILL HAS PERFECT WEEKEND

Elmira was 14/14 on the penalty kill this past weekend. Through four games, the Jackals have allowed only one goal while short handed, having killed off 28 of 29 their opponents' power plays. Elmira leads the league in penalty killing at 96.6%. The Jackals are the only team in the league to have allowed fewer than two power-play goals.

LEAGUE LEADERS

Jackals forward Evan Barlow leads the ECHL with 10 points and seven assists after two weekends. Pielmeier is 2-0 and is atop the ECHL with a .962 save percentage, stopping 75 of 78 shots in his two starts this season.

TRANSACTION RECAP

The Jackals placed forward Martin Moucha on waivers Sunday after signing him to a contract on Saturday. He recorded an assist in Elmira's loss in Wheeling and has four points (2g-2a) in six career games with the Jackals. Moucha is a graduate of Elmira's 2009 Pro Placement Camp.

On Thursday, Oct. 27 two Jackals players will be meeting with fans, taking photographs, signing autographs and speaking about domestic violence between 6:30 and 8:00 pm at Take Back the Night.
