Coleman Named Goaltender of Week Once Again

Alaska Aces goaltender, Gerald Coleman was named the Reebok Hockey Goaltender of the Week for Oct. 17-23, the Aces and ECHL announced on Tuesday. It is the second straight week that Coleman has won the award. Coleman and the Aces head to Utah this week for a pair of road games, before returning to Alaska to host the Bakersfield Condors on Wednesday, November 2. Coleman, who also won the award last week, joins Dany Sabourin (Oct. 25-31 and Nov. 1-7, 2004), Tyrone Garner (Feb. 12-18 and Feb 19.25, 2001), Dov Grumet-Morris (Nov. 29- Dec 5 and Dec 6-12, 2010) and Josh Tordjman (Dec. 13-19 and Dec. 20-26, 2010) as the only goaltenders to the win the award in consecutive weeks since it was introduced for the 1997-98 season.

The 26-year-old was 3-0-0 with one shutout, a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .955 in three victories over Idaho this past weekend to extend his personal winning streak to five games as Alaska has started the season 5-0-0. Coleman turned aside 16 shots on Thursday and 25 shots on Friday followed by 22 saves on Saturday to earn his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Steelheads. He has played all 305 minutes of Alaska's five games this season, and leads the ECHL in minutes, wins and goals-against average.

A native of Evanston, IL, Coleman was named to the All-ECHL First Team and was selected as ECHL Goaltender of the Year last season with Alaska after leading the ECHL with a 2.19 goals-against average and tying for the league lead with 30 wins and four shutouts.

Coleman has appeared in 150 ECHL games with Johnstown, Augusta, Phoenix, Trenton, and Alaska, posting an overall record of 84-47-11 with nine shutouts, a 2.59 goals-against average and a save percentage of .909. Coleman also has 81 games of American Hockey League Experience with Springfield, Portland, Worcester and Lowell and two games of National Hockey League experience with Tampa Bay.
