Ottawa Champions News Release

OTTAWA - The New Jersey Jackals took both games of a day-night doubleheader to sweep their three-game series with the Ottawa Champions on Wednesday at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, New Jersey.

The Jackals won the first game 6-2 before topping the Champions in the night portion 8-3.

Despite the teams being even at eight hits apiece in the morning game, the Jackals' three runs in the first inning were enough to notch the win. The Champions got a run in the top of the first when CF Chase Harris scored unearned and pulled within a single point in the fourth inning. 1B Brian Portelli, who went 2-for-2 in the game, scampered home on a wild pitch.

However, the Jackals would pull away from there, tagging Ottawa RHP Steve Borkowski for six earned runs over seven innings.

In the second game, Ottawa briefly took the lead in the third inning. Portelli, who was moved to the outfield for the game, hit a leadoff home run - his second in his short Champions career. DH Sebastien Boucher and RF Steve Brown drove in runs to give the Champions a 3-2 advantage.

The Jackals would score six unanswered runs from the third inning onward to take the game and sweep the series.

2B Ozney Guillen picked up his first hit as a Champion in the first game and finished the contest 2-for-4. C Cyle Figueroa made his Champions debut in the night game, hitting a double in his first at-bat.

Ottawa will look to get back in the playoff hunt when they take on the Rockland Boulders at RCGT Park. The four-game series gets underway tomorrow, Thursday, August 9 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
