New Jersey Jackals News Release

One game after Eduar Lopez threw a no-hitter against the Ottawa Champions on Tuesday night, the Jackals got back in the win column on Wednesday afternoon.

Yasmani Hernandez fired five innings while allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out seven batters en-route to the Jackals fourth consecutive victory.

Ottawa scored first with a double steal in the top of the first inning.

Center fielder Chase Harris swiped home after designated Sebastian Boucher took second to make it a 1-0 Champions lead.

Three runs came across for New Jersey in the home half of the inning however to quickly respond.

Center fielder David Harris hit an RBI single to score left fielder Connor Hofmann.

Then, a sacrifice fly by Danny Canela and run-scoring single by Taylor Oldham made it 3-1, New Jersey.

Brian Portelli scored the second Ottawa run in the top of the fourth on a wild pitch by Hernandez to slice the lead back down to one.

But, the Jackals responded with a double-steal of their own in the bottom of the inning when Oldham came home to score after short stop Carlos Triunfel got hung-up in-between first and second.

Right fielder Jordan Hinshaw delivered the knock out blow for New Jersey with a two RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to cap-off the 6-2 victory for the Jackals.

The bullpen for New Jersey was lights out in this one.

Zach Arneson, Evan DeLuca, Jose Velez and Vin Mazzaro all worked a scoreless inning relief and compiled six strikeouts and just three hits.

Game two of the doubleheader is set for 7:05 P.M. on August 8.
