Malik Collymore of the Ottawa Champions steals second against the Quebec Capitales
(Ottawa Champions)
OTTAWA - Steve Brown went 3-for-5 with two RBI but it wasn't enough as the Ottawa Champions lost Game 2 of their final homestand 9-4 to the Québec Capitales.
Champions starter Jared Mortensen had a less than stellar outing for his last start of the season, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits. He walked just one batter but managed to strike out five.
Brian Portelli extended his hit streak to ten games, going 2-for-4 with a walk and Malik Collymore registered two stolen bases, tying the Can-Am League record for most stolen bases in a season.
Down 7-1, the Champions scored two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to four, but a home run from Yordan Manduley in the sixth took out any wind the Champions had left in their sales.
The Champions took a 1-0 lead early on thanks to a Steve Brown RBI, but the Capitales tied it in the second and then scored five runs in the third to give starter Karl Gélinas a comfortable 6-1 cushion to work with.
The Champions and Capitales play Game 3 of the four-game set tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. at RCGT Park. Danny Garcia gets the start for Ottawa.
