Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals roughed up the Adirondack Frostbite 5-2 to snap a 7-game home winless streak Friday night at the First Arena.
With the Jackals desperate for a home win, Adirondack's David Moccia put the Frostbite ahead at 8:29 when he slipped a shot past Jackals goalie Matt Meacham. But Elmira got it back with only seconds to spare. Jason Sessa scored his 18th goal of the season at 19:54, assisted by Konstantin Kalmikov and Flo Iberer to tie the game at one.
In the second period the Jackals played stingy defense and won the special teams battle to score the only goal of the period. Jarrett Konkle finished off a two-on-one pass from Trevor Burgess to score a short-handed goal, his third shorty of the year, at 5:16. The goal was Konkle's team-leading 30th of the season, assisted by Burgess and Kalmikov for a 2-1 lead after two period. Konkle becomes the first Jackal to reach 30 goals this year and the second Elmira player with 30 or more goals in the past two seasons.
But Konkle was not done yet. He gave Elmira some insurance, scoring just 59 seconds into the third period, assisted by Sessa and Mathieu Wathier for a 3-1 Elmira lead. Ryan Prentice brought one back for the visitors with a disputed goal at 12:22, one that the Jackals argued never crossed the goal line. But Elmira answered almost immediately. Flo Iberer bombed a one-timer past goalie Kris Tebbs just 17 seconds later at 12:39, Iberer's 2nd goal of the season, assisted by Kevin Cooper and Craig MacDonald. Jason Sessa then capped off the third period rout with his second goal of the night at 14:01, assisted by Kalmikov and Konkle for a 5-2 victory.
Matt Meacham earned his first win in his first start in a Jackals uniform, making 37 saves on 39 shots in an outstanding performance in goal for Elmira. Adirondack's Kris Tebbs took the loss, stopping 27-of-32 shots. Elmira was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Adirondack finished 0-for-5.
The Jackals hit the road for a Saturday - Sunday doubleheader in Roanoke against the Vipers. Elmira's next home game falls on Saturday April 1st as they host Roanoke for a 7:05 pm face off.
