Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- For the second time in two meetings, the Rockford IceHogs fell behind the Danbury Trashers by multiple goals, and for the second time Danbury brushed off an IceHogs comeback, this time beating the Hogs 4-3 in front of 4,038 at the Rockford MetroCentre. The Trashers built a 3-1 lead in the second before breaking a 3-3 tie to take the win in a physical contest.

Rockford rookie center Steve Yetman began the scoring at 7:31, just after a power play expired, tipping in a Robin Big Snake pass for the 1-0 lead. The Trashers responded, however, by netting a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission. Winger Alex Goupil fired home a feed from David Beauregard at 10:54 to tie the contest before center Jeff Daw chipped in the go-ahead marker past Hogs goalie Ronnie Vogel at 14:50.

In the second, Danbury continued to cruise offensively to take a 3-1 lead. Winger David Hymovitz knocked in a tally at 1:30 for the two goal advantage. But Rockford fought back to tie the contest back up. As a Danbury power play was expiring, winger Jason Ralph set defenseman Dan Boeser up for his fourth goal of the season at 5:48, cutting the lead down to a goal.

Later, while on a power play, center Preston Mizzi slapped a Sylvain Daigle rebound in for his team leading 30th of the campaign, tying the score at 3-3. The Trashers got the next marker and it would figure to be the game-winner. Defenseman Dave MacIsaac redirected a Troy Smith blast from the point past Vogel at 16:47.

Daigle stood tall in the third as Rockford outshot the Trashers 12-3 in the final frame. The veteran goalie made 34 saves overall to earn the win, while Vogel turned away 18 in the loss. The Hogs finished the contest 1-for-9 and held Danbury to 0-for-7. The IceHogs also set team highs for penalty minutes in a game (83) and most combined PIM's (158) in a contest. Winger Bruce Watson set a club-record, racking up 47 PIM's for the IceHogs.

Next Home Game: Saturday, March 25 vs. Fort Wayne Komets. Game time is 7:05 p.m. SpongeBob SquarePants swings by the MetroCentre on Saturday and fans can bring their cameras and meet one of Nickelodeon's most popular cartoon characters. SpongeBob is presented by Insight Communications.
