IHL 2 Kalamazoo Wings

Countdown to Face-Off

March 24, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Two teams that are jockeying for playoff position will meet for the final time in the regular season. Kalamazoo leads the season series over Quad City with a record of 3-1-0, with two of those victories occurring at The Mark. On the season, the K-Wings are an impressive 11-6-3 against teams from the Western Division.

Tonight is game two of a three-game road trip for the K-Wings. Kalamazoo defeated Fort Wayne last Sunday in part one of the swing. The K-Wings come into contest just three points behind the Muskegon Fury for first place honors in the Central Division. Both the K-Wings and the Fury will face-off tomorrow night in Muskegon.

Between now and the end of the regular season, every game will feel like a playoff game for the Mallards. Quad City comes into the game just three points behind the Fort Wayne Komets for second place in the Western Division; however, they lead the Richmond RiverDogs by a single-point for the eight and final playoff spot in the UHL.

With his first shift of the game, defenseman Josh Elzinga will reach a personal milestone. Elzinga's first shift of the game would signify the 100th game in his professional career.

That's What Willis is Talking About

Forward Tyler Willis is currently on a seven-game assist streak. The seven-game streak is the longest assist streak in the United Hockey League and it is also just one-game shy of tying the K-Wings season high of eight games held by Tyler Rennette.

On a Roll

Kalamazoo's Damian Surma has scored a goal in each of his last five games. The five-game streak is the longest goal streak by a K-Wings player and it is also the second longest streak in the UHL.

Lighting the Lamp

So far this season, the K-Wings have scored 282 goals. The 282 goals sets a K-Wings UHL franchise record for most goals in a single-season. The old record was held by the 2003-04 team, which scored 281 goals.
