UHL sidelines player for official-abuse

March 24, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release

The incident occurred March 18 when the Flags hosted the Flint Generals.

Sullivan, 25, was sent to the penalty box by referee John Searle with four minutes for hooking and high sticking at 13:32 of the first period, but was ejected with a game misconduct at 15:33 - one second after the original two penalties expired.

"The suspension was a combination of his verbal abuse towards an official and the fact that he has been a repeat offender with abuse towards officials," said UHL spokesman Brian Werger.

This is the second time in less than a year that Sullivan has received an official-abuse suspension.

While playing for the Rockford IceHogs against the Kalamazoo Wings last March 25, he assaulted linesmen Jeff Parrish after Searle - the league's most experienced referee - penalized him for goaltender interference.

That incident resulted in the UHL handing out a 20-game suspension.

Sullivan has played in 25 games this season with both the Generals and Flags and has two goals, three assists and 59 penalty minutes.

Flint won the game, 6-1.
