
Jackals Drop Shootout To Roanoke Again

Elmira, NY - For the second straight game the Elmira Jackals skated to a shootout loss to the Roanoke Valley Vipers; this time it was 6-5 Friday night at the First Arena.
Roanoke took the first lead halfway through the first period when Mark Scott scored a power play goal at 11:15. Elmira countered at 14:22 when Tom Clayton tipped home a Chris Chaput shot for his first goal of the season. The power play goal was assisted by Chaput and Mike Dombkiewicz and tied the game at one. Rico Fatticci regained the Vipers lead at 16:44 to make it 2-1 after twenty minutes.
In the second period David Beauregard extend Roanoke's lead to 3-1 with a goal at 4:20, but it would not hold for long as the Jackals would score three times in under three minutes. 51 seconds later Kevin Cooper scored a power play goal at 5:11 from Dombkiewicz and Trevor Burgess, Elmira's second power play goal of the night. Just over a minute after Cooper's goal, linemate Jarrett Konkle tied the game at three with another power play goal at 6:43, assisted by Cooper and Chaput. Elmira would then take their first lead of the night at 8:08, when Tom Clayton scored his second goal of the night, the Jackals only even strength tally of the game, assisted by Burgess and Chaput for a 4-3 lead. But as usual, Roanoke did not give up. Beauregard scored his second goal of the game at 11:31 to tied the game at four, assisted by Jan Jas and L.P. Martin. Becoming the third player to score two goals in the game, Cooper would poke him another power play goal at 18:55 from Dombkiewicz and Konkle to make it 5-4 Jackals after forty minutes.
In the third period, the Vipers' L.P. Martin tied the game at 8:30 from Travis Smith and David Shillington, forcing this game into a nail biting final ten minutes. After some great chances from both sides to claim a victory, the game was sent to a shootout, Elmira's third consecutive shootout and fourth in their last five games. In the shootout, L.P. Martin and Josh Tataryn scored in rounds 1 and 5, while the Jackals had goals from Jarrett Konkle in the first round and Craig MacDonald in round four. But in round six Steve Crusco would beat Nick Boucher to earn Roanoke's second straight shootout victory over the Jackals.
Jamie Hodson got the win, stopping 28-of-33 shots and 4-of-6 in the shootout, while Nick Boucher got the shootout loss while making 23 saves on 28 shots and going 3-for-6 in the shootout. The Jackals out-shot the Vipers 33-to-29 in the game and was 4-for-9 on the power play. Roanoke was 2-for-10 with the man advantage.
Saturday the Jackals will host the Port Huron Flags for their only visit to the First Arena this season at 7:05 pm. Sunday Elmira will drive up to Glens Falls, New York for a 5:15 pm matinee with the Adirondack Frostbite.
