Jackals Blank Tornadoes on Two Hits

Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Little Falls, NJ -- Jackals lefty Kevin Ool shut down the Tornadoes offense, combining with two relievers on a two-hit shuout as New Jersey handed Worcester their fourth shutout defeat of the season, 9-0, at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Jackals jumped on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning on a two-run home run by Clyde Williams off righty Matt Weagle (1-4), making the start on three-days rest. They tacked on another unearned run off Weagle in the 5th when an Omar Pena throwing error allowed Sandy Madera to rip a two-out RBI double and put the Jackals up 3-0. Meanwhile, Ool (1-1) was dominant, allowing just a leadoff double to Mike DeCarlo in the 3rd and a leadoff bloop single to Patrick Perry in the 7th. The Jackals broke things open late, scoring three runs off Eddie Pena in the 7th and three more off Mike Meagher in the 8th to cruise to the easy victory.

Ool (1-1) picked up the win and Weagle (1-4) pitched well again, but again received no run support and was the hard-luck loser. The Tornadoes are now 3-21 in games in which they score fewer than 4 runs. Worcester is 1-4 on their current road trip, in which they have scored fewer than 4 runs in all 5 games. The Tornadoes will look to take the rubber game of their three-game series in New Jersey against the Jackals when they send righty Ryan Mitchell to the mound for his first Worcester start on Thursday night. He will be opposed by Jackals righty and Becker College graduate, Ryan Pacyna. First pitch is set for 7:0pm
