Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Little Falls, NJ -- Dominic Ramos delivered a clutch two-out RBI single in the 10th inning to lift the Worcester Tornadoes to a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Jackals at Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday night, and snap the team's four-game losing streak.

The game featured a terrific pitcher's duel between righthanders Junior Guerrero and Joel Bennett. The Jackals struck first, using a two-out RBI single from Joe Mihalics to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th. But Worcester came right back in the top of the 5th on a Yohanny Valera solo homer to center, then took the lead in the 7th on an Andrew Wishy RBI single. The Jackals tied it in the bottom half of the 7th on a Clyde Williams sacrifice fly that sent the game to extras. Greg Smith led off the top of the 10th with a single off righty Justin Garza (2-5), was sacrificed to second base and took third on a wild pitch. After Keith Beauregard grounded out to first, Ramos fought off several tough two-strike pitches before lining a base hit to leftcenter to plate Smith with what would prove to be the game-winner.

John Birtwell (4-2) retired all six men he faced in the 9th and 10th for the win and Garza (2-5) suffered the loss, his third to the Tornadoes this season. Worcester is now 4-3 in extra innings games. Six of the seven games the Tornadoes have played in extra innings this season have gone exactly 10 innings. The win snaps the club's season-long five-game road losing streak. Five of the eight games played between Worcester and New Jersey this season have been decided by one run. The Tornadoes will look to make it two in a row over the Jackals in New Jersey when they send righty Ryan Mitchell to the mound for his first Tornadoes start in Game Two of the three-game series on Wednesday night. He will be opposed by New Jersey lefty Kevin Ool. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
