December 2, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals announced Thursday that forward Josh Brittain has been reassigned to the club by their NHL affiliate, the Anaheim Ducks, from their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. Additionally, the Crunch have assigned forward John Kurtz to the Jackals.
Brittain, drafted in the third round (71st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Ducks, is in his rookie season with the Crunch. The 6'5", 230-pound left wing split his fourth and final OHL season with Barrie and Plymouth in 2009-2010, totaling 32 points (15g-17a) and 130 penalty minutes with the two clubs.
In 2008-2009, Brittain set junior-career highs with 32 goals and 52 points, dividing the season between Kingston and Barrie.
The Milton, Ontario native won the gold medal with Team Canada at the 2008 Under-18 IIHF World Championship.
Brittain has an assist and 43 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Crunch this year.
Kurtz spent the last three seasons with the OHL's Sudbury Wolves, serving as the team captain in 2009-2010 and finishing second on the team with 30 goals and fourth with 46 points.
The left wing from Oakville, Ontario nearly doubled his point total in 2008-2009 from the previous season, tallying 54 points (21g-33a) with the Wolves.
Kurtz scored his first professional goal in his second game with the Crunch at the end of last season on Apr. 2 at Adirondack. The rookie has an assist and 28 penalty minutes with the Crunch this season.
COULOMBE, TURNER BACK WITH JACKALS
The Jackals also announced Thursday that defensemen Patrick Coulombe and Brennan Turner are back with the club.
On Wednesday, the Jackals loaned Coulombe to their AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, while the B-Sens recalled Turner.
Coulombe is tied for the Jackals' scoring lead among defenseman with 13 points (4g-9a) and has played in three games with Binghamton this season. Turner is second on the Jackals with 55 penalty minutes and has a goal and five assists for six points in 18 games in 2010-2011.
The Jackals are in Reading for a crucial Atlantic Division battle on Friday before returning home to take on the Kalamazoo Wings on DeMet's Turtle Toss night at First Arena this Saturday at 7:35 p.m. For tickets, call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
