
Jackals Acquire Cole Martin from Fort Wayne

ELMIRA, NY - October 13, 2016 - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today the additions of defensemen Cole Martin and Carl Tremblay to the training camp roster. The Jackals acquired Martin in a trade with the Fort Wayne Komets in exchange for future considerations. They claimed Tremblay off waivers Tuesday.

Martin, 22, enters his second professional season in 2016-17, after playing for three teams last year. He spent this year's training camp with the Komets after being acquired in an offseason trade with the Norfolk Admirals. In 2015-16, Martin appeared in 57 games for the Admirals, Atlanta Gladiators and Idaho Steelheads. The lefty-shooting defenseman had 13 points (3g, 10a) over the course of the season, in addition to 33 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, the Arlington, Texas native played junior hockey in the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets from 2011 to 2015, appearing in 280 games in his career. In his final season with the Rockets, Martin served as an alternate captain as the team won the WHL and made a run to the Memorial Cup Final. He had 97 points (10g, 87a) and was a +143 in his career in Kelowna and had a WHL-best +61 rating in 2013-14. Tremblay, 21, begins his professional career after spending four years of junior hockey in the QMJHL with Val-d'Or and Chicoutimi. In 2015-16, the righty-shooting defensman ranked second among Val-d'Or blueliners with 25 points (5g, 20a). In four seasons in the QMJHL, the Malbaie, Quebec native appeared in 271 of a possible 272 regular-season games, missing one game in 2012-13, his first season in the league. During his career, he had 62 points (12g, 50a) and was a +27 rating.
