Mallards Welcome New Athletic Trainer
October 13, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - Corey O'Brien has been named the Quad City Mallards' new athletic trainer, the Mallards announced today.
O'Brien joins the Mallards after spending five seasons in the Houston Astros organization. While new to the Mallards, O'Brien is no stranger to the Quad Cities area: he spent the last two baseball seasons as athletic trainer for the Quad Cities River Bandits, an Astros single A affiliate.
Prior to arriving in the Quad Cities, O'Brien acted as trainer for two other Houston affiliates: the Greenville Astros and Tri-City Valley Cats. He first joined the Astros system after one season as trainer for the Joliet Slammers, an independent baseball team in the Frontier League.
A native of Eagan, Minnesota, O'Brien earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire before going on to receive a Master of Science degree in education from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.
O'Brien takes over as Mallards athletic trainer from Jon Piche, who served in that role for the last four seasons. Piche remains the team's director of hockey administration, a positon in which he oversees player transactions, player immigration matters, salary cap compliance and other areas related to hockey operations.
The Mallards will open their twentieth season in the Quad Cities tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets at the iWireless Center. Single game tickets for all regular season home games- including the opener- are now available. Fans can purchase single game tickets in person at the iWireless Center box office, by calling TicketMaster charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000 or online at myqcmallards.net. In addition, Mallards 2016-17 season tickets remain available. Season ticket holders enjoy significant savings on the walk-up ticket price and receive a host of exclusive benefits. For more season ticket information, fans can contact the Mallards at 309-277-1364 or info@myqcmallards.net .
