Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, Pa.) -- Phillies LHP J.A. Happ, recovering from a strained left forearm that has sidelined him since late April, will continue a Major League rehab assignment when the Lehigh Valley IronPigs host the Pawtucket Red Sox on Sunday at Coca-Cola Park, the Phillies announced today. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is the exclusive sponsor of all Major League rehabilitation appearances at Coca-Cola Park.
Tickets still remain for Sunday's 7:05 p.m. game and can be purchased in-person at Coca-Cola Park, by calling (610) 841-PIGS or online at ironpigsbaseball.com. Prices for single-game tickets start as low as $6 for General Admission, granting fans access to the Capital BlueCross Lawn seating area and standing room only areas. Field Level reserved seats are just $9.
Sunday's Independence Day game features a post-game 3-D Fireworks Extravaganza presented by AT&T with 3-D glasses for the first 7,000 fans. The IronPigs will also wear commemorative Patriotic jerseys presented by Rothrock Motors on Sunday and the game-worn uniforms will be auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting Blue Star Mothers of the Lehigh Valley and IronPigs Charities.
Happ's return to the Coca-Cola Park mound this past Tuesday in a rehab appearance was a successful one as the left-hander allowed just two runs in four innings of relief work in an IronPigs 5-4 victory over Rochester.
In five total rehab appearances with Clearwater (A), Reading (AA) and Lehigh Valley, Happ has gone 1-1 with a 6.98 ERA in 19.1 innings.
Originally selected by the Phillies in the third round of the 2004 draft, Happ was placed on the disabled list by Philadelphia on April 22 (retroactive to April 16). He made two starts for Philadelphia earlier this season, and went 1-0 without allowing an earned run in 10.1 innings pitched.
Last season, Happ enjoyed one of the best rookie seasons for a Phillies pitcher in club history, going 12-4 with a 2.93 ERA and finishing second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting. He was named the NL Rookie of the Year by The Sporting News and led all NL rookies in innings (166.0), strikeouts (119), winning percentage (.750), complete games (3), and shutouts (2).
Pitching for the IronPigs during their inaugural season in 2008, Happ's on-field performance was as noteworthy as any of his teammates as he finished 8-7 with a 3.60 ERA and allowed just 116 hits in 135.0 innings pitched. He also finished 2nd in the International League with 151 strikeouts, one shy of the IL leader. For his efforts, the Phillies named him the Paul Owens Award winner at season's end, bestowed yearly to the top pitcher in the club's organization.
