
Gwinnett Beats Toledo, 6-3: Wins 6th in a Row

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves beat the Toledo Mud Hens 6-3 at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio Friday night in the final game of the four-game series. The Braves swept the series and have now won six in a row. They up their record to 40-and-42 and pick up a game on the first place Durham Bulls in the International League South, as the Bulls lost to Louisville (10-5) in Durham. The Braves are now 9.5 games in back of the Bulls. The Mud Hens lose their eighth in a row and are 41-and-41 on the season. They drop to nine games in back of the Columbus Clippers in the IL West.
It Was Over When: The G-Braves trailed early, as Toledo scored three runs off Jo-Jo Reyes in the first two innings to go up 3-0. However, the G-Braves cut into the lead with an unearned run off Toledo starter Billy Buckner in the top of the third. They would then tie the game in the fifth on a two-run homer by Wes Timmons, his third of the season. The Braves would take the lead in the top of the sixth and chase Buckner. Joe Thurston drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second by Jordan Schafer. A single by Anderson put runners on the corners, and Boscan came through with an RBI single to plate Thurston. Young followed with a double to score Anderson.
Braves Beat: On the Mound: LHP Jo-Jo Reyes started and got a no decision. His line was 4.2 IP, 4H, 3R, 2ER, 3BB, 8K. Cristhian Martinez (2-1) entered in the fifth and was credited with the win, finishing with 2.1 IP, 1H, 1BB, 2K. Stephen Marek worked the eighth, giving up one hit and striking out three. Michael Dunn pitched the ninth for his seventh save.
At the plate: The Braves banged out 10 hits. Matt Young went 2-for-5 with 2 doubles and 1 RBI. Diory Hernandez went 2-for-5 to up his hitting streak to 11 games. Boscan was 2-for-4; Timmons was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer; and Freddie Freeman ups his on-base streak to 22 with a solo homer in the ninth.
The opposition: On the Mound: RHP Billy Buckner (2-4) got the loss. His line was 5.1 IP, 7H, 5R, 4ER, 4BB, 5K. Josh Rainwater replaced Buckner in the sixth going 0.2 IP with 2H, 1R/ER, 1BB, 0K. Fu-Te Ni (1.0 IP, 2K), Ryan Perry (1.0 IP, 2K) and Jay Sborz (1.0 IP, 1H, 1K) pitched the seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
At the plate: Ryan Strieby went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jeff Larish hits a solo homer in the second off Reyes, his 13th of the season.
On Deck: The Braves begin a three game series in Durham Saturday night. First pitch against the Bulls is at 7:05 p.m. RHP Todd Redmond (7-7, 4.22 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves. Durham will start RHP Richard De Los Santos (6-3, 4.35 ERA).
