Charlotte beats Norfolk

Norfolk Tides News Release
Four Norfolk pitchers combined to hold Charlotte to just six hits, but the Tides were edged 2-1 in front of 8,483 fans Friday night at Harbor Park.
Tides starter Zach Clark (0-3) was the tough-luck loser, as he surrendered two runs on four hits in six innings of work. Clark walked three and struck out four, but yielded an RBI single to Brent Morel and a sacrifice fly to Alejandro De Aza in the second inning that were enough to give Charlotte their third straight win over the Tides.
Charlotte starter Jeff Marquez (7-4) was equally impressive, as he allowed just a run on four hits in seven innings. The only run Norfolk could muster came in the seventh, as Rhyne Hughes lined a two-out double to right and scored on a single to left by Blake Davis.
Former Tide Greg Aquino worked a perfect ninth inning to register his ninth save of the season.
Norfolk put a runner on third base with nobody out in both the first and eight innings, but each time the Tides could not push a run across to score.
The two clubs will meet again at Harbor Park on Saturday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15. Tim Bascom (2-2, 4.37) is slated to take the hill for Norfolk against right-hander Matt Zaleski (5-5, 3.46). There will also be a postgame fireworks extravaganza presented by AT&T.
