Isotopes, United Blood Services to host blood drive

May 18, 2006 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes and United Blood Services will host a blood drive at Isotopes Park on Monday, May 22nd from 3:00-7:00 PM before that night's game between the 'Topes and the Tucson Sidewinders. Those that donate blood will receive a T-Shirt and a Buy-One-Get-One-Free voucher for a Reserved Section ticket to that night's contest.

Memorial Day kicks off the summer months when blood donation typically decreases but the need for blood increases, creating the need to raise awareness and keep the blood supply high.

"The demand for blood is constant, even the summer months," said Charlene Smith, Donor Recruitment Manager of United Blood Services. "It's important that people remember to take some time out of their busy schedules to donate during May, June, July, or August to help maintain a safe and plentiful supply of blood for our community."

A blood-mobile will be parked outside of Isotopes Park on the corner of University and Avenida Cesar Chavez and fans will be able to conveniently donate on their way into the game.

The drive kicks off Hometown Heroes week, which will include a visit by Isotopes mascot Orbit to the United Blood Services Center on Wednesday, May 24th. The loveable 'Topes mascot will do his part by donating blood from Noon to 1:00 PM.

United Blood Services, located at 1515 University Drive SE, is the area's only non-profit community blood provider and serves patients in 45 hospitals and centers in New Mexico and the Four Corners region. The United Blood Services network is one of the nation's oldest and largest non-profit blood service organizations, and is a founding member of America's Blood Centers.
