Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Round Rock - Royce Huffman hit a three run homer in the second and Luke Scott hit a two run shot in the fifth to lead Round Rock to a 8-3 win over the Sidewinders on Thursday night at the Dell Diamond.
Huffman's blast erased an early 1-0 Tucson advantage. With two on and nobody out in the bottom of the second, Huffman launched his fourth home run of the year off the facing of the home run porch in left to put Round Rock in front 3-1. Huffman upped his RBI total to 20 for the season.
Scott pushed the Express lead to 5-1 with his opposite field blast in the bottom of the fifth off Neal Musser. The left handed hitter went deep into the Round Rock bullpen in left center for his eighth home run of the season.
Kevin Jarvis took the loss for Tucson. Jarvis allowed three runs on three hits in just an inning and two thirds. Jarvis (2-5) left the ballgame with two out in the bottom of the second because he was called up to the Diamondbacks.
Phillip Barzilla earned his first win of the year with six innings of one run baseball. Barzilla (1-3) gave up just four hits and struck out four.
Tucson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Alberto Callaspo led off with a single and advanced to second on a one out walk to Carlos Quentin. Scott Hairston's single to left then plated Callaspo.
Round Rock made it an 8-1 game with three runs off Mike Koplove in the sixth. Cody Ransom's two run triple and a Koplove wild pitch helped the Express extend their lead to seven.
The Sidewinders scored two in their half of the eighth to make it closer. Quentin and Hairston had back to back RBI doubles to close the gap to 8-3.
Hairston finished 2-4 with two RBI. He now leads the club with 26 RBI and extended his hitting streak to seven.
The Sidewinders and Express play game two of their series at 5:05 Tucson time tomorrow night. Right hander Enrique Gonzalez (4-3 2.45) gets the start for Tucson against righty Jason Hirsh (3-2 3.55) for Round Rock. The game will be tape delayed and begin airing on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:00.
