Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Returning the favor and breaking out of a recent funk, the Albuquerque Isotopes (15-13) clobbered the Nashville Sounds (18-10) 14-2 in front of a season-high 9,441 fans Saturday night at Isotopes Park.
Albuquerque victimized Sounds pitching, which entered the contest tops in the Pacific Coast League, as the Isotopes' 14 runs and 15 hits were the most allowed on the season for the Sounds staff. The 14 runs also added up to two more total tallies for the âTopes than they had put together in their past five games combined.
The Isotopes scored in every inning but the first and eighth and every batter reached base by the fifth frame. A second-inning double by Russ Mitchell, who entered the game with just one hit in his past 18 at-bats, put the âTopes ahead 1-0. Albuquerque upped its lead with a two-run homer from John Lindsey, his first since April 24, in the third inning to make it 3-0.
From there the âTopes poured it on with four runs in the fourth and fifth. Starter Tim Corcoran, who also starred on the mound, pitched in an RBI single in the fourth, which was followed by a two-run triple from Ramon Nivar, who also came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 7-0.
Albuquerque would cash in on two more pitching gaffes from the Sounds in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Chin-lung Hu roped a single to plate one before Nashville allowed two more âTopes to score via a passed ball and a wild pitch. The inning was capped with a single from pinch-hitter Michael Restovich to make the score 11-0.
Corcoran (2-2) departed after the fifth, having faced just four over the minimum in his five innings of work, getting eight of his 15 outs on the ground to pick up the win.
While Nashville prevented the shutout with a run in the sixth and seventh off reliever Travis Schlichting but Albuquerque would pile on three more runs of its own. Jay Gibbons contributed a solo shot in the sixth coupled with back-to-back doubles from Lucas May and Mitchell to make it 13-1. A Jamie Hoffmann RBI double in the seventh made it 14-2 and Juan Perez tossed two scoreless innings in the eighth and Albuquerque cruised to the victory.
Albuquerque will look to make it two in a row on Sunday behind right-hander James McDonald (1-1, 3.97) who will take the mound for the âTopes against Sounds righty Marco Estrada (1-1, 2.38) in a 1:35 PM MT matinee.
The Isotopes' short homestand against the Sounds rolls on with a special Mother's Day Celebration in which fans can enjoy an all-you-can-eat brunch Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
